Clothing of Renaissance Commoners

Unlike the Royals and upper classes, who for the most part lived a life of luxury, the commoners worked and worked hard. Clothing was practical and comfortable - made from linen, flax, cotton or wool.

Colors were plain and undyed or subdued - commoners were forbidden to wear purple, crimson or fancy fabrics - these were restricted to the upper classes by law.
